Once a user buys your product, he or she needs to learn how to operate it correctly and safely. This is typically accomplished with a user’s manual written by a skilled technical writer who translates complex technology into accurate, clear, and concise instructions.

The key to successful technical writing is using a writer who not only knows how to put words together, but also has substantial technical expertise and can quickly grasp the intricacies of complex technology.

But there is more to writing, like time management. A good writer must be able to schedule time to write, create art, have drafts reviewed, edit, index, and prepare a final version.

Don’t underestimate the importance of people skills. A writer has to communicate with very busy product developers, like engineers, scientists, and other subject matter experts. He needs to extract the information that resides in their heads without being a pest.

Before becoming a freelance writer, I had a successful 30-year career as an engineer (M.S.E.E.) and a technical writer for major high-tech companies where I mastered technical writing and project management skills.

Now, as the freelance technical writer, I can create for you:

  • User manuals

  • Installation manuals

  • Service and maintenance manuals

  • Troubleshooting guides

  • Assembly instructions

  • Process descriptions

  • PowerPoint presentations

… that will delight your customers with easy to understand instructions and visuals.
